Today, I went to Rider University again with Dr. Cottingham. I spent a lot of the day learning how to use a program called SPSS and logging information from the study into it. I basically had to come up with labels, values, and titles for every questions and score on the survey. It wasn’t particularly challenging, just very tedious and time consuming. I also researched articles on Ebscohost for Dr. Cottingham that pertained to the study she is doing and had some research done already on the topic. Today, Dr. Cottingham also had me get all of the names of the churches that we are conducting a few of the studies at, as well as the addresses and Reverend’s names and post mark letters to them thanking them for their participation. We also began to put together “thank you” gifts of information on health disparities from the study for the participants. I researched the different disparities to find brocheours on then and fact sheets that would be appropriate to give to elderly people about these health disparities.
Although a lot of today’s work was mindless and tedious, I am still really enjoying the study and cannot wait to start plugging the data into SPSS to evaluate the results of the study. I also am really excited because Dr. Cottingham invited me to come with her to DC in July when she will be presenting her study at a psychology conference.
